(Molly Lovell- Keely photo) Renovations on the Sentry’s new office on Main Street in Biddeford are moving along and the staff is scheduled to move in mid-April.

Mainely Media LLC’s new office in the former Westpoint Stevens mill store is located just feet away from its current location at 180 Main St.

“We’re completely rebuilding the first floor,” said Scott Joslin, general manger of the Pepperell Mill Campus.

The building, which is part of the campus owned by Developer Doug Sanford, dates back to the late 1800s and, before it was a store, it was the original counting house for the mill where payroll was distributed.

Joslin said old pay stubs and copies of money that was paid out were found in the building upon renovation.

The building is No. 30 in the Pepperell Mill Campus, and Joslin said it will be referred to as “No. 30 counting house” to grow the legacy of the names in the campus.

“It’s important to preserve that,” he said.

A safe remains in the new Courier office that Joslin said weighs about five tons.

“It’s a gorgeous safe. It’s there to stay,” he said.

Joslin, who is also a director of the Biddeford Mills Museum, said several items from the days when the mills were active will be displayed in the Courier’s new lobby.

Courier General Manager David Clark said it’s important to the company to maintain the downtown’s historical integrity.

“ We are very happy with all the hard work and the new office taking shape next door,” Clark said. “Continuing to be a part of Biddeford’s downtown growth and having such nice office space in a historic building like this that houses so much history is great for our company.”
