Surf Camp

Surf Camp is a great experience as well as a lot of fun. While kids learn a life-long activity they develop a feeling of mastery over something that gives them self-confidence. On an average day kids smile all day, immerse themselves in nature, use their bodies, develop confidence, coordination and balance and make new friends. Riding waves provides an unmatched sense of exhilarating pure, natural energy. Best of all though, learning to surf gives a kid something to do that they will love for the rest of their lives. They will, I promise, thank you for opportunity to learn to surf. And - on the worst day at Surf Camp - it’s still a day at the beach. Call David @ 207-423-1986

Children are our future at North Atlantic Montessori School

The most crucial time for learning is between the ages of birth through five years old. The young developing brain is like a sponge, absorbing everything in its environment and all interactions. This is one of the founding principles of Dr. Maria Montessori and at North Atlantic Montessori School we honor her principles and philosophy. North Atlantic Montessori School was founded in 2009 and is located in a state-of-the-art building for the purpose of offering a Montessori education for children between the ages of infants to 6 years old including State Approved Kindergarten. It is equipped with classically beautiful Montessori equipment and child sized furniture. The school offers a structured, calm, wellorganized environment that allows children to learn intrinsically through curiosity and desire. Our school environment supports the children so that they can learn at their own pace and at their free will, giving them power to become masters in their learning. The environment allows children to work independently or with others in any of the learning centers. A Montessori education never forces a child to be like someone else, the emphasis is solely on the child feeling great about themselves through their own accomplishments and desires.

North Atlantic Montessori School offers summer camp for children between the ages of 4 to 7 years old. Summer camp activities include farm camp with organic vegetable gardening, care of animals, “froging”, nature hikes with an emphasis on the environment, science, nature and fun. We will also be taking trips to the Falmouth Auboborn, Macworth Island, Scarborough Marsh, Children’s Museum, Wolfe’s Neck Farm, Maine Wildlife Park and more.

The teachers at North Atlantic Montessori School have Montessori teacher certifications and are nurturing, loving, CPR and 1st Aid Certified and have over 20 years experience in Early Childhood Education. We are conveniently located at 209 Western Ave., South Portland, Maine, 1/2 mile from exit #, 295. Children are our future, make sure yours gets the best start possible by calling 518-9573 to set up a tour and visit the website at www.northatlanticmontessorischool.com

Farm Camp

Farm Camp is looking forward to our 7th summer of hands-in-the-dirt fun! Farm Camp is a farm and ecology day camp for kids, ages 4 through 12, at Turkey Hill Farm in Cape Elizabeth and the Morris Farm in Wiscasset. These two organic farms are engaged in local, sustainable agriculture. Kids learn through fun, handson activities digging in the garden, doing farm chores, caring for farm animals, exploring forest and pond habitats and lots of creative outdoor play. We grow the ingredients for cooking projects in the Children’s Garden, collect eggs from the hens, and pick wild and cultivated berries. We catch frogs and aquatic insects in the pond, build fairy houses and forts in the woods and create art projects using the gifts of nature.

New this summer is Farm Trek! a week of adventure for 9-12 year olds. This program begins at Turkey Hill Farm in Cape Elizabeth and embarks on field trips, including an over-night camp-out at the Morris Farm in Wiscasset.
