Library kicks off writer series

The South Portland Public Library kicked off its Maine Mystery Writers Series on Thursday, June 7, when it hosted crime writer Gerry Boyle. Boyle began his writing career as a newspaper reporter in Rumford. The town later became the setting for his first novel, “Deadline.” His most recent book, titled, “Port City Black and White,” tells the story of a rookie police officer in Portland searching for a missing infant. The South Portland Public Library’s series will continue with more Maine authors throughout the summer. James Hayman, author of “The Chill of Night,” will be the library’s next speaker on Thursday, June 21.
