Plane Crashes Near Fort Williams

 A plane crashed in Cape Elizabeth at around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 24 in the water a few hundred yards south of Fort Williams Park

The U.S. Coast Guard First District Public Affairs said in a news release that the pilot of the plane was recovered by Sea Tow after he was found by a surfer. The pilot was transferred to the local fire department and transported for medical treatment. His condition is currently unknown.

The Coast Guard launched a rescue boat from Station Portland and a helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod to search the area. ´╗┐Local emergency crews also assisted in responding to the crash.
