SMCC receives boost in fire science program

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, ranking member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, announced that Southern Maine Community College in South Portland will receive a grant for $286,368. The money is being allocated through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Fire Prevention and Safety Grants Program, which is part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program.

“The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is an extremely critical source of funds for our fire and rescue personnel,” Collins said. “These grants provide Maine’s fire departments with the support needed to purchase vehicles, life-saving equipment and conduct training to develop the skills to better serve their communities.”
