Delays Continue after Water Main Break

Drivers are advised to avoid the 700 block of Broadway this afternoon as crews from the Portland Water District continue to work to repair a water main that broke last night.

Michelle Clements of the Portland Water District said the main broke last night around 7 p.m. at 724 Broadway near J.P. Thornton's restaurant. Crews from PWD worked through the night and are still in the area, which has caused significant traffic delays at the busy intersection.

Police say they hope the traffic pattern in the area will return to normal this afternoon around 3 or 4 p.m. Currently, traffic is flowing one way in each direction on Broadway, which will cause delays until the crews are finished working.

Clements said the PWD is still investigating to see if they can pinpoint the cause or if anything unusual caused the break.
