Concert with Cul de Sax Saxophone Quartet, 7 to 8:30 p.m., South Portland Public Library. Concert kicks off a new series of after-hours events.

When casseroles aren’t enough – helping families in crisis, 6 to 7:30 p.m., Cancer Community Center, Main Street, South Portland. Author and nurse practitioner Carol Glover will talk about her experience with her daughter, who was treated for acute Myeloid leukemia. She will read excerpts from her book, “Loving Hannah,” and facilitate discussion about how to help family and friends deal with a diagnosis. To register, call 774-2200.

Writing Your Life, with Judith Hanneman, 1:30 to 3 p.m., Cancer Community Center, Main Street, South Portland. Other dates include Thursdays, Oct. 4, 18 and Nov. 8.
