Moby Rx

When Betsy Abdullayof says she and her husband, Momen Abdullayof do what it takes to make sure their customers have what they need at MobyRx in South Portland, she means it. Recently, Betsy said, a man was unable to drive to pick up his prescriptions for his wife and another pharmacy didn’t have them ready when she needed them. Momen, after he found out, delivered the needed medications to the couple’s door.

“It’s really just making sure everyone is taken care of,” Betsy says.

MobyRx offers this free delivery service as well as curbside pickup for anyone in the local area, but for those who want to stop by, the locally and family-owned pharmacy is conveniently located on 225 Waterman Drive in South Portland. Betsy and Momen live with their son, Moby, in Cape Elizabeth.

As members of the local community, Betsy and Momen make an effort to know all the customers that come through the door and base their products and services on the needs of the public.

Your Pharmacist, Momen Abdullayof Your Pharmacist, Momen Abdullayof “Customer service and satisfaction is our number one priority,” Betsy says. “We know most of our customers by name and we’ll do what it takes to make sure they have what they need.”

MobyRx offers a wide-range of prescription and over-the-counter medications and recently added medicare reimbursement for durable medical goods such as wheelchairs, medical supplies, diabetic supplies and catheters. Momen also provides specialty compounding for customers who need a specific dosage of their medication.

The pharmacy also offers vaccines at competitive prices. Flu vaccines are $20, the least expensive in this area, says Betsy, as well as the Zostavax (for shingles), which is generally covered under insurance plans.

Momen moved to the United States from Uzbekistan in the 1980s and received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Northeastern University in 1997. For eleven years, Momen worked at the Mill Creek Rite Aid Pharmacy. When that store shut down, Momen moved on to open MobyRx.

The pharmacy will celebrate its one-year anniversary of its opening on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The celebration will feature cake, food, children’s activities and half price flu vaccines for $10. The pharmacy will also raffle off an iPod Touch and MobyRx gift certificates.

The celebration will provide Betsy and Momen a chance to say thank you to the customers the pharmacy has always put first above all else. “People have been very supportive. Once they come in the door they stay!”
