City venue hosts auction

Seventy-Five State Street held a gala benefit auction event on Thursday, Sept. 13 at Events on Broadway in South Portland. The gathering, which drew more than 160 participants, opened with a large silent auction and culminated with a live auction conducted by professional auctioneer Jill Daviero. The auction sponsor, Seventy-Five State Street, is a residential community for the elderly of all backgrounds and financial means and one of the oldest nonprofit, charitable institutions in Portland.

Resident Alice Loesch, along with support from other residents, took it upon herself to establish and promote the New Van Fund to raise funds for the replacement of a 13-year-old vehicle that provides transportation services for residents going to medical appointments, shopping areas and group outings. It is a very important part of the transportation program and must be reliable, comfortable and handicapped accessible. Recognizing the residents’ efforts and the need to replace the aging van, trustees and staff came together to sponsor the auction and directed all proceeds to the New Van Fund. Final figures are still being tallied, but so far more than $14,000 in proceeds has been added to the New Van Fund.

For more information or to contribute to the fund, contact Janice Drinan, development director, at 775-7775, ext. 203.
