Two athletes inducted into hall of fame

Southern Maine Community College announced the 2011 Athletics Hall of Fame Class. Two inductees will be honored during a banquet on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 5 p.m. in the McKernan Center on the South Portland Campus at 2 Fort Road. Tickets can be purchased by contacting SMCC Athletics at 741-5927 or mrichards@smccme.edu.

Andy MacVane (men’s basketball, 1994) ranks 12th in career rebounding and 13th in career scoring for the college. MacVane averaged 17 points and seven rebounds per game during his career. He was a two-time all Maine Small College Conference selection and was named first team NNESCC selection in 1993. His teams won the Maine Small College Conference titles in 1993 and 1994 as well as winning the Northern New England Small College Conference title in 1993. Erica Davis (women’s basketball and softball, 2006) finished third in scoring (18.9), second in total rebounds (12.5) and second in total steals (4.7) for all USCAA Division I women’s basketball during the 2006 basketball season. In only one season of play, Davis accrued statistics that currently rank her seventh overall in career scoring, sixth in career rebounds, and third in career steals. She was named a first team Yankee Small College Conference (player of the year) and was a 2006 USCAA All American.

In softball, Davis batted .375 and was 11-11 on stolen bases in one season. She was named a 2006 All Yankee Small College Conference selection

“Both inductees had outstanding careers while at SMCC and have made significant contributions and had success upon leaving the college,” said SMCC Director of Athletics Matt Richards. “Induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame is very fitting for them as they exemplify what we hope our current student athletes will strive to become.”
