Vote absentee by Nov. 1

As the Tuesday, Nov. 6 election approaches, South Portland residents are reminded the deadline to request an absentee ballot is Thursday, Nov. 1.

Absentee ballots can be requested online through the city’s website at www.southportland.org or by phone by calling the city clerk’s office at 767-7601.

City Clerk Susan Mooney also recommended South Portland residents who have had a recent name or address change, or who need to register to vote, to register ahead of time. While Election Day registration is allowed, historically, she said, the lines to the registrar can be lengthy.

In the weeks leading up to the election, South Portland will be holding candidates’ forums for state and local office at city hall. The first forum took place Oct. 11 and featured state legislative candidates for House Districts 122 and 123. The next forum, featuring candidates for State Senate District 7 and House District 124, will take place Thursday, Oct. 18. The final forum will feature city council candidates the following week, Thursday, Oct. 25. All forums begin at 7 p.m. in the city council chambers.
