CCC distinguished by WCSH award

Cancer Community Center in South Portland received the WCSH-6 Agency of Distinction Award at the Portland Museum of Art Oct. 22.

News anchors Cindy Williams and Pat Callaghan of WCSH 6 presented the center’s Executive Director Michele John with the 6 Who Care Agency of Distinction Award to the applause of many.

The award honors individuals and one community organization for exceptional service to the greater Portland community. The award was created by WCSH 6 and United Way of Greater Portland. As the 2012 Agency of Distinction, the Cancer Community Center receives a cash gift of $2,000.

Last year the Cancer Community Center served more than 1,000 adults affected by cancer – connecting people with resources, mind and body wellness classes, and one another. The center was created by members of the Greater Portland community and is alive and well today with help from a team of volunteers who donate time, talent and financial support.
