Teachers can learn more about ocean

Educators and ocean aficionados are invited to “Exploring Ocean Diversity Through Science, Art and Literature” 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, 350 Commercial St., Portland, where there is free parking.

The schedule includes hands-on professional development workshops followed by a light dinner of seafood sampler (with vegetarian options). The evening lecture begins at 7 p.m. and features Maine children’s book author Mary Cerullo and her latest book “City Fish, Country Fish: A Study in Biodiversity.”

The annual meeting of the Gulf of Maine Marine Education Association provides the opportunity to network with formal and informal marine educators, artists and ocean champions from Maine, New Hampshire and beyond. Participants will leave with educational resources and activities. Certificates of completion will be provided for those interested in documenting professional development that takes an integrated approach to ocean literacy.
