Convoy raises money for Camp Sunshine

A check for $14,000 was presented to Anna Gould, founder of Camp Sunshine, from the proceeds raised at the Maine Trucking for Kids Convoy held in Scarborough and South Portland in September. Next year’s Convoy will take place on Sept. 29, starting at Scarborough Downs.

Camp Sunshine supports children with life threatening illnesses and their families. The camp has the distinction of being the only program in the nation whose mission is to address the impact of a life threatening illness on every member of the immediate family – the ill child, the parents and siblings. Since its inception, Camp Sunshine has provided a haven for over 30,000 individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

The convoy is a joint effort between the Maine Professional Drivers Association and the two Lions Clubs in South Portland, the South Portland Lions Club and the Thornton Heights Lions Club. This is the 15th year the groups have worked together to raise funds for various youth related organizations. More than $165,000 has been raised during those 15 years.
