City loses a quality business

To the editor:

About 10 years ago a small, high quality, take out shop called the Buttered Biscuit opened on Cottage Road in South Portland. On Jan. 25, the successful business closed because the owners, Audrey and Byron Castro, decided that after 10 years of hard work, they needed to step back and consider the next phase of their life.

There were a number of things that made the Buttered Biscuit stand out to us. Whether we bought soup, prepared salmon or dessert, we could always count on the quality to be high. Whenever we had guests, some or all of the meal was purchased here. If we had a special request it was handled with a smile, and certain items were gladly prepared with dietary restrictions met. The employees who packaged our food were largely young, local people, many of whom were of college age. They were always pleasant and accommodating due to training given them by the owners.

We will miss having the Buttered Biscuit in our city.
