Scam prevention seminar given in Cape

Ways to protect seniors from scams and loss of personal information was presented March 28 by Cape Elizabeth Community Resource Officer Mark Dorval and South Portland Police Officer Robert Libby at Kindred Assisted Living-Village Crossings.

Officers said unscrupulous telephone and Internet contact with seniors has increased and extreme care should be used if contacted. Most important is never give out bank, credit card or Social Security numbers. They also recommended hanging up on suspicious solicitations from unknown companies or organizations. In recent months many of these calls seem to be originating from the Caribbean, Africa and Canada.

The South Portland- Cape Elizabeth Triad is a joint effort to bring seniors, the South Portland and Cape Elizabeth Police Departments, local business and community members together to enhance the quality of life and improve the safety of seniors in these communities.
