Police have arrested a suspect who they believe robbed the TD Bank on Market Street in South Portland on Monday evening, April 22.

Joseph Morrill, 23, of South Portland, was arrested and charged with Class A robbery at 10:50 p.m. Monday on Broadway, just over five hours after the crime.

Morrill allegedly entered the Knightville area bank Monday evening in a dark hooded sweatshirt, black baseball hat, jeans and white sneakers. Police said he approached the teller and demanded cash while in possession of a handgun. Then allegedly escaped with a small amount of cash.

“The arrest was made so quickly as a result of a collaborative effort between the patrol and investigative divisions of the South Portland Police Department with invaluable assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” Webster said in a release.

Morrill is being held at the Cumberland County Jail on $150,000 cash bail. His arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday, April 24. Cape Elizabeth police arrested Morrill in September for refusing to submit to arrest or detention.
