South Portland resident celebrated at Crossings

Kindred Assisted Living Village Crossings celebrated Earth Day with a dedication on its campus in honor of Donald Blaney, formerly of South Portland. A resident of Village Crossings community for the last six years, Blaney died among his many friends just short of his 100th birthday.

Located proximate to the Spurwink River salt marsh, a new fourstory purple martin house will provide a nesting site for 24 martin families that feed principally on insects. The memorial, a gift of his family, Bette and Jeffrey Roberts and Barbara Granitz, celebrates Blaney’s love of nature and the good cheer he shared with his many friends throughout his long life.
