Plot needs city’s attention, expertise

To the editor:

I live on a cul-de-sac in South Portland that has four homes on it. There is what could be a very nice, neat plot of grass with some trees on it. I say it could be very nice and attractive as you drive down the circle, but in the 30 years I have lived here the city has not done one thing to clean up the area except to cut some trees that had grown high enough to interfere with the electrical wires. The city or its contractors never cleaned up their mess and left 4-foot to 6-foot stumps or stubs that are now big bushes, rapidly growing back to the wires overhead. Someone should think ahead a little and eliminate the problem. The old wood and bush should be removed.

I am 80 years old and on oxygen 24/7, but I am doing my best to keep the place looking good, but with my age and health and the price of gas, I can’t keep it up much longer. I need some held from the city. With the trucks, front end loaders and other fancy equipment my taxes pay for, I would think the city could spend a couple hours and come help me maintain the circle. I spent more than 20 years in the Coast Guard and I like things to look neat and good.
