Area dancers in ‘The Nutcracker’

The Maine State Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” be held Saturday, Nov. 30 through Sunday, Dec. 8 at Merrill Auditorium in Portland and include 26 dancers from South Portland and Cape Elizabeth.

Cape Elizabeth dancers include Faith Buckley, Kaitlin Evans-Bodenrader, Claire Gaudrault, Reese Harder, Haley Memeon, Max Hemeon, Lily Mackenzie, Michael Mackenzie, Sage Maxwell, Madeline Meile, Cayden Royall, Marla Schelasin, Sophia Schelasin, Stephanie Te Boekhorst, Alexandra Weissbach, Katrina Weissbach and Olivia Weissbach. South Portland residents include Erika Babcock, Frederick Bernier, Marshall Garrison, Mallory Garrison, James Herrera, Olivia Smith, Brooke Sowerby, Christina Williams and Zsuzsa Williams.

The show will feature live music from the Maine State Ballet Orchestra, costumes and stage scenery by Gail Csoboth and dancing by more than 300 people.

Maine State Ballet’s revered principal dancer Janet Davis of Windham and 18-year-old Rhiannon Pelletier of Raymond will share the role of Sugar Plum Fairy. Glenn Davis of Windham will reprise his role as the Nutcracker, splitting time with 17-year-old Maiki Saito of Scarborough, who formerly danced as the Russian Cossack in last year’s performances.

Two teenagers alternate performances in the role of Clara: Adrienne Pelletier of Raymond, a veteran of the role at the age of 16, and Alyssa Bryan, age 15, of North Waterboro; 16-year-old Errol Kurtz of Raymond will entertain the audience as the Russian Cossack.
