Denture Wearers: Throw away your Denture Adhesive!!

If you are a denture wearer, take a few moments and consider when your last reline was. If the answer is never, you are not alone. Many denture wearers are not aware that the ADA suggests a reline every 3-5 years to keep gums healthy, teeth fitting correctly, and your appearance free of unnecessary wrinkles.

In addition, a lot of people receive their dentures and think they are all set for 15-20 years and merely accept denture adhesive as a necessary part of their denture wearing life. This does not have to be the case. The need for denture adhesive usually is a sign that a denture is not fitting correctly and by having the right kind of reline/care, a denture wearer should need minimal to no adhesive.

In order to reline a denture, most dental facilities have the patient leave their denture from a day to a number of days causing much inconvenience and embarrassment. That is not necessary at Denture Solutions. They perform this service while you wait in about an hour. So if you think that you will benefit from this service give them a call at 207 985 0210 and if you have an ill-fitting lower denture, they may be able to adapt their lower locking denture technique to your existing denture along with a reline. This application has saved many of their patients the cost of a new lower. Please go to their web site www.DentureSolutionsMaine.com for more information.

Dr. Ellie’s Health Tips:

Health Tip of the Month: Curcumin—a derivative of turmeric, and the pigment that gives the curry spice turmeric its yellow-orange color—has been extensively researched. Curcumin appears to be universally useful for just about every type of cancer, and has the most evidence-based literature supporting its use against cancer of any nutrient. It has the ability to modulate genetic activity and expression, both by destroying cancer cells, and by promoting healthy cell function. Research has also shown that it works synergistically with certain chemotherapy drugs, enhancing the elimination of cancer cells. ~ Dr. William Lavalley, M.D.

Thought for the Month: Poor health is not caused by something you don’t have; it’s caused by disturbing something that you already have. Healthy is not something that you need to get, it’s something you have already if you don’t disturb it. ~Dean Ornish

Chiropractic Thought for the Month: Ever wonder who could benefit from chiropractic care? Babies? Toddlers? Children? Adults? Aging adults? How about all of the above. My front desk assistant, Pam, has always put it like this: “If you have a spine, you need to get it checked!” Although we are checking your spine— your spine protects your nerve system. Your nerve system controls every cell, tissue and organ in your body. When your spine is in line, your nerve system is free to function at its best, promoting good health and well being! So it seems that since everyone has a spine—then EVERYONE should be checked by a chiropractor. If you have questions, please ask me! I’d love to continue the conversation. Relieve Stress with Bartlett Acupuncture

Stress relief is a wonderful side effect of acupuncture treatment,”says Kath Bartlett, Licensed Acupuncturist and owner of Bartlett Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine of Oak Hill, Scarborough.

Under stress we tighten up, restricting the Qi flowing throughout our bodies. Increased tension causes health problems: headaches, hypertension, pain and digestive problems.

Acupuncture moves Qi and promotes relaxation.

Says Scarborough resident Jacqueline Durant-Harthorne, “Working full time and raising three children, I lose sight of my own needs. Acupuncture allows me to refuel, leaving me relaxed, less anxious and providing more energy to live my life to the fullest. Kath is professional and extremely knowledgeable. I am so glad I found her!”

The Home Energy Savings Program

The Home Energy Savings Program, or HESP from Efficiency Maine is providing the most accessible support for homeowners who need to re-insulate their homes,” reports Mark Walker, General Manager of Home Snuggers. To help them cut their heating bills, Efficiency Maine will rebate up to $1,500 to customers. And almost all new Home Snuggers customers qualify for at least $1,000 from Efficiency Maine.

Home Snuggers is a Windham based family business founded in 2011, solely for the purpose of re-insulating homes in Maine. Their premier product, RetroFoam, is a super insulation technology tested in thousands of existing American homes over the last 10 years. Homeowners typically slash their heating bills by one third with the addition of RetroFoam to their exterior walls. RetroFoam seals all the gaps and cracks where heat escapes and eliminates drafts.

Anyone interested in financing the modest cost of a RetroFoam installation - an average home is only $2,500 to $4,000 - can apply for a low interest PACE Loan from Efficiency Maine. Energy savings usually cover the monthly loan payments, which makes it easy to pay off quickly.

According to Walker, “Everyone knows energy costs will rise in coming years. Home Snuggers provides healthy and affordable insulation, while being a neighbor of integrity in our communities.” It is noteworthy that RetroFoam is totally eco-friendly. Eric Hallee, Vice President of Chase Customs Homes points out, “RetroFoam doesn’t produce vapors, and installers do not need protective gear.”

Customers speak highly of Home Snuggers. Exclaimed Deborah King of Cape Elizabeth on one cold, sunny morning as she walked into the office: “It is so hot in here, you have to turn the heat down. Apparently the RetroFoam is working. The heat wasn’t even on!”

Efficiency Maine’s Home Energy Savings Program will likely be funded through July 31, 2014. Homeowners should take advantage of this incentive of up to $1,500 for upgrading their house while also cutting their home heating bills.
