South Portland marching band gears up for season

After two years of marching band camp on the fields of Dyer Elementary School, the 2014 South Portland Marching Band returns to the newly outlined fields at South Portland High School to begin their exciting and entertaining season.

About 75 students attended a seven-day camp in preparation for the Maine Band Directors Association’s opening season of Marching Band Shows, which begins Saturday, Sept. 20 at Edward Little High School. Under the direction of Craig Skeffington, and led by drum major Cole Lemelin, the South Portland High School Gold Medal award-winning marching band will perform music from “The Mummy” and “The Mummy Returns.”

South Portland High School will host the second show of the season Saturday, Sept. 27 with six other bands performing and the Black Bear Marching Band from the University of Maine at Orono rounding out the evening. The season will culminate with the finals on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Thornton Academy in Saco.

The South Portland Music Booster family would like to thank the Dyer School neighborhood for its support and cooperation during the past two years. They hope you enjoyed the marching band music and will walk across the street for the Sept. 27 home show on Martin Field.
