Activists unite

Members of local environmental activist group Protect South Portland, including, from left, Linda Thingpen, Cathy Chapman, Karen Sanford, Marla Pastrana and Rachel Berger, celebrate the recent passage of the city's Clear Skies Ordinance, which blocks the transport of diluted bitumen, or tar sands, through South Portland, by participating in the Sept. 21 People's Climate March in New York City. The march, attended by nearly 400,000 people, was designed to focus attention on Tuesday's United Nations Climate Summit.
