Cape Elizabeth celebration begins early

Next year will mark Cape Elizabeth’s 250th anniversary and that’s a “great reason to celebrate,” according to Carrie Dyer, Inn by the Sea general manager. Dyer serves on an eight-person ad hoc advisory committee Cape Elizabeth’s Town Council formed to help coordinate upcoming anniversary plans.

An overview of the upcoming year’s events will be announced at the kick off celebration, an evening of music and a cash bar cocktail reception 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 at Inn by the Sea. The event is exactly one year before the 250th anniversary of Cape Elizabeth’s incorporation.

Featured information will include the announcement of a joint effort by the 250th Anniversary Committee and the Fort Williams Foundation to bring the Portland Symphony Orchestra back for an anniversary concert called “A Night at the Light,” on Saturday, July 25, at Fort Williams.

The evening will also include an exhibit by the Cape Elizabeth Historical Society, announcement of the timeline of anticipated events, a description of Pond Cove’s multimedia project funded by Cape Elizabeth Education Foundation and Pond Cove Parent Association, joint/matching grants, and preliminary details about anticipated events. These include bus tours of both northern and southern areas of town, presentations by local and state historians, a presence at regular town events such as the Memorial Day Parade and docent-led discussions of historic sites.
