Other local races

Apart from District 33, the other local races for seats in the Maine House of Representatives feature uncontested incumbents. In both District 31 (northeast South Portland) and District 32 (central South Portland and northwest Cape Elizabeth), the Republican candidate dropped out of the race after the deadline that would have allowed the party to substitute an alternate. Therefore, Democrats Terry Morrison and Scott Hamann, vying for their fourth and second terms, respectively, should sail into office.

Morrison, general manager of the Inn at St. John, said he hopes to be chairman of the Legislature’s insurance and financial services committee in the new session, while his top priority will be pursuit of tax credits for solar power installations. Meanwhile, Hamann, program manager at Good Shepherd Food Bank, said his first piece of legislation will be a second go at increasing Maine’s minimum wage, following a gubernatorial veto of a similar bill he submitted during his first term.
