SMCC student recipient of grant

Caitlin Jones, a second-year Southern Maine Community College student from South Portland, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Maine Real Estate & Development Association for study during the current academic year.

Jones is one of seven Maine community college students to receive the scholarship, awarded for the first time this academic year. To qualify for the scholarship, students must be a Maine resident, have financial need, and be enrolled as a second-year student in the building trades, architecture, construction, engineering or business program at a Maine community college.

Caitlin is enrolled in SMCC’s Architectural & Engineering Design program and plans to work for an architectural firm after graduation.

The scholarship funds were raised through the association’s annual “Strikes for Scholars” bowl-a-thon in May. Its goal is to raise enough each year to fund at least one scholarship at each of Maine’s
