Area author’s book deemed ‘notable’

“Dream Singer,” by South Portland author Frank O. Smith, was selected in December as a Notable Book of the Year in the literary fiction category by “Shelf Unbound,” the international indie book review magazine.

“I’m honored by the distinction of ‘Dream Singer’ being a Notable Book of the Year, especially in the category of literary fiction,” Smith said. “I’m also deeply appreciative of the local, independent bookstores that are carrying my novel. I’m grateful for their support.”

In addition to being named a Notable Book of the Year, “Dream Singer” was also previously a finalist for the Bellwether Prize, created by bestselling novelist Barbara Kingsolver, “in support of a literature for social change.” Smith is a writer and ghostwriter, and teaches writing at the Maine College of Art. He lives with his wife in South Portland.
