Art exhibit opens with concert

Stephen Shiman of Saco will be featured in a photographic art opening with a chamber music concert from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 2 at Dyer Library in Saco.

The concert will present the Saco Bay Chamber Ensemble with Shiman as oboist, Dr. Peter Stickney, organist/choir director of First Parish Congregational Church in Saco as pianist and James Ferus playing violin. Following the concert there will be a reception.

Shiman had a long career as director of community arts in schools in New Jersey, New York and Maine. His educational background as an oboist was at the Juilliard School. His interest in photography evolved over his adult years with an initial interest in Polaroid cameras. Since 2000 he has used digital technology involving Photoshop processing to produce abstracted compositions of people and nature with textures to enhance the artistic experience.

Shiman is vice chairman for Saco Citizens for Sensible Government. For more information, visit shimanart. squarespace.com.
