Keep area family friendly

To the editor:

The green space at the former Hamlin School (intersection of 77 and Sawyer, currently occupied by the South Portland Planning Department) provides a green open space widely used by the neighborhood.

This is the only public space near my home and is regularly used by dog walkers, children playing and gardeners in the community garden. Although we are open to and would welcome neighborhood businesses in this area, my family values this space and would like to preserve and improve a large portion of this green space. This space, in easy walking distance to our home, is part of why we love living in South Portland and in our neighborhood. As the old playground equipment has been slowly removed
