Participate in global Mormon conference

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints does a global broadcast called “General Conference” twice a year, once in April and once in October. Oct. 3 and 4 is when the general authorities (The prophet, apostles and other leaders of the church) speak to members on a global scale.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 29 Ocean House Road in Cape Elizabeth will host multiple sessions. They will be at noon and 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 and noon and 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.

They can also be viewed at LDS.org for live streaming, Time Warner Cable channel 9 or the Mormon Channel App, available with iOS and Android devices.

Fight Back Festival is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Cancer Community Center in South Portland.

“In order to provide free programs and services all year long, we need to raise an annual budget of $670,000 and Fight Back Festival accounts for 20 percent of that budget,” said Nicole Avery, the center’s executive director. “We very much depend on the generosity of the teams and individuals who raise funds through their participation in the festival.”

Festival Co-Chairmen Karen Schilling and Melissa Cookson said the center is important to adults affected by cancer.

“Karen and I both have close, personal experiences with cancer,” Cookson said. “We know first-hand how valuable center programs and services can be when you’re faced with either your own cancer diagnosis, or that of a loved one.”

In-person registration will be available the day of the festival at Pineland Farms. Visit FightBackFestival.org for more information.
