Another year to shine

Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth basks in one of the final sunrises of 2015 in this photo by South Portland resident Russ Lunt. Fort Williams Park, where the lighthouse is located, will look different in the new year. This week, the concrete grandstand on the site's old military parade ground was demolished at a cost of $55,000 — save for a small, easternmost section, still used for high school graduation ceremonies. The area of the old stands will be regraded and seeded in the spring. Long-term plans call for an outdoor amphitheater to be built on the site.
