Library’s reading program begins soon in South Portland

South Portland Public Library announced a winter reading program for children through 18 years old, starting Saturday, Jan. 30. Children and teens who participate will be given a reading chart with various activities they can choose to do, such as “Come to a library program,” or “Read a book by a Maine author.” Participants will be challenged to complete 10 activities from the chart between Jan. 30 and March 5, crossing off each activity they finish. After 10 completed activities, participants can come to the library to receive a prize. If 15 or more activities are completed, their name will be entered into a raffle for grand prize drawings.

South Portland Public Library’s first winter reading program will coincide with the exciting release of a starred-review picture book by South Portland resident Julie Falatko. Falatko’s book, “Snappsy the Alligator (Did Not Ask to Be in This Book)” will be released Feb. 2 and she will celebrate with a launch party at the main library on March 5, at the end of the winter reading program.
