Jazz ensemble takes home award

The South Portland High School’s Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Craig Skeffington, took second place out of 16 bands in Division 3 at the Berklee Jazz Festival in Boston on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Receiving one of the Outstanding Musicianship Awards in Division 3 was junior Owen Doane on trombone. More than 150 bands from New England, Florida, Puerto Rico, to New Jersey, New York and as far away as Denmark, performed at the annual festival, which draws more than 3,000 high school students. This is the 32nd year that South Portland High School has performed in the national festival.
