Community invited to walk with their doctors through spring

Pediatric physicians at Maine Medical Partners will kick off a series of walks with the first from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 12 at South Portland Community Center. The physicians invite their community to get in a daily dose of 60 minutes of physical activity by joining them in a refreshing walk. They will host walks on March 26, April 2, April 9, May 7 and May 14.

According to the National Center of Disease Control, physical activity such as walking can significantly improve health. People who are physically active live longer and have a lower risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression, and some cancers.

This is a free walking opportunity and open to community members of all ages and experience levels and preregistration is not required. Future walks will be announced via the Walk with a Doc website, www.walkwithadoc.org. As the weather becomes warm, walks will be outdoors exploring the South Portland Greenbelt trails.

This walk is organized in partnership with Maine Medical Partners - Pediatrics, The Opportunity Alliance and the South Portland Community Center.
