SoPo native wins steak award

Westbrook resident and South Portland native Marcelo Lopes, culinary professional at LongHorn Steakhouse in South Portland, was recognized as the regional winner of the company’s Steak Master Series competition. The honor is bestowed upon the top performing culinary team members in the company. He is one of 60 team members from LongHorn Steakhouse to achieve the distinction.

The Steak Master Series was created by LongHorn Steakhouse to celebrate the restaurant’s commitment to grilling expertise, to challenge its culinary team members to continuously strive for excellence and sharpen their skills, and it provides an opportunity to recognize team members in a unique way.

Lopes is a South Portland native and has worked at LongHorn Steakhouse for six years. He enjoys grilling steak at the restaurant and at home. He has been cooking since he was a teenager, and his favorite dish on the LongHorn menu is the outlaw ribeye.

“Winning the regional Steak Master Series competition means my hard work paid off,” Lopes said. “I hope this shows my peers that we are all capable of doing great things. Through this, I want to show others that if you want something badly, you need to work hard for it.”
