Historical society’s annual auction kicks off Saturday

The 10th annual Summer in Maine Auction, The South Portland Historical Society’s major fundraiser, will open Saturday, June 18. The auction will initially be held at the society's museum at Bug Light Park where visitors can bid in a silent auction format any time through the Fourth of July. Bidding will end at the society's July 4 event, after “Benjamin Franklin” reads the Declaration of Independence at noon.

Auction items featured will showcase the variety of places to go and things to do during Maine summers – items such as cruises, tours, golf, theater, museums, restaurants and other summertime activities. Visitors can bid on items such as a Sea Dogs skybox, a ride for four on the Portland Pilot boat, a family membership at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, a sail for two on a Maine schooner, an overnight stay at one of a selection of Maine hotels, tickets to a show at a live theater or gift certificates to a local restaurant.

In addition to bidding at the society’s Cushing’s Point Museum at 55 Bug Light Park, South Portland, the Summer in Maine Auction will also be available on the South Portland Historical Society Facebook page. Online bidding will be available through July 3 on the Facebook page or by emailing sphistory04106@gmail.com. For more information, call 767-7299.
