Resident to run in race that ends at Fenway

South Portland resident Betsy Parker is running in this year’s Red Sox Foundation Run to Home Base to help service members, post-9/11 veterans and their families heal from invisible wounds of war through clinical care, wellness-based programs, community outreach, education and research.

The program, presented by New Balance, is a partnership between Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital.

On Saturday, July 23, Parker will run the race that finishes with the experience of crossing “home base” (plate) at Fenway Park.

Parker has pledged to raise a minimum of $750 but set her personal goal higher. To support her efforts, visit www.runtohomebase.org. Click “Donate to a Runner or Walker” and search for “Betsy Parker.”

Launched in September 2009, Home Base is the first partnership of its kind between an academic medical center and a major league baseball team.

Parker is the wife of an Army reservist who was deployed in 2011 to Afghanistan.

She and her family live in South Portland.
