After Hours concert series returns

Back by popular demand, the South Portland Public Library will kick off its fifth season of the After Hours Concert Series this fall. Featuring talented groups from Maine and beyond, these live concerts will take place on the second Saturday of each month after our regular day of business comes to an end.

The season kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 10 with a concert from The New England Jazz Band, which will perform big band music. The terrific lineup continues with The Bellamy Jazz Band playing New Orleans- and Chicago-style jazz on Oct. 8. Peter Mezoian returns with his eclectic banjo music on Nov. 12, and the saxophone quartet, Cul-de-Sax, rounds out the year with a concert of holiday music on Dec. 10. Other shows in the lineup include: Maine Marimba Ensemble playing marimba tunes; Seagrass, a bluegrass and country band; Hadacol Bouncers playing Chicagostyle jazz; Fodhla, an Irish music trio; and the Casco Bay Tummlers performing Klezmer music.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and music runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The programs are held at the library’s main location at 482 Broadway in South Portland, upstairs by the big windows.

All concerts are free and open to the public and concerts are held outside of our usual hours of operation. The library will be closed for regular business during these times. The program is made possible thanks to the support of Friends of the South Portland Public Library.
