Raise the roof

UPS employee Kevin Fitzpatrick, 50, of Scarborough, spent the week of Sept. 1-8 atop the roof of Patriot Subaru on Route 1 in Saco in support of STRIVE, a South Portland-based nonprofit which helps tweens, teens, and young adults (ages 11-24) with developmental disabilities improve their academic skills, develop leadership potential, and land economic opportunities. In the fourth consecutive year he's done his cloud-level campaign, Fitzpatrick vowed to maintain his encampment until he'd raised $30,000 in texted donations to STRIVE. "He’s our volunteer extraordinaire. He’s just so generous with his time," said STRIVE U Program Director Betsy Morrison, on Sept. 13, by which time the tally for Fitzpatrick's stunt had tipped $32,719 raised, with donations still coming in to the website, www.pslstrive.org.
