A Window on the Past

South Portland Junior High intramural sports

We’ve had some fun with these images from our files on South Portland Junior High. This week, we take a look at a group of students learning the age-old skill of archery in the 1960-1961 school year. I don’t recall that being available when I went through Mahoney Junior High in the early 1980s.

I’m sure we’ll hear from a few people who may be pictured in this photo. We would love to document their names if anyone knows them.

In looking through our old yearbooks at South Portland Historical Society, we realize that we have a gap in our South Portland Junior High yearbook collection. If anyone out there has a 1960-1961 yearbook from the junior high, and would be willing to donate it to the historical society, we would love to hear from you. Please give us a call at 767-7299 or stop by the museum at 55 Bug Light Park, South Portland. We’re open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the end of October.

Kathryn Onos DiPhilippo is executive director of South Portland Historical Society.
