Resident supports enrolled candidate

To the editor:

I’m again supporting Rebecca Millett for re-election to the state senate District 29 (South Portland, Cape Elizabeth and part of Scarborough) because she has proven to be a tenacious proponent for education, the environment and good paying jobs. Her values support those values held by most of her constituents in District 29 and she will continue to be a strong voice fighting Gov. Paul LePage's extremist conservative agenda.

I am concerned that her opponent, Cape Elizabeth's Martha MacAuslan, will not embrace anything close to Sen. Millett's progressive vision. MacAuslan is running as an un-enrolled candidate, but I'm afraid that if elected she would end up alongside those in the LePage camp. She reportedly un-enrolled as a lifelong Republican shortly before entering the Senate race, probably thinking this would increase her appeal in a district dominated by Democrats and un-enrolled voters.

The many challenges we currently face in Augusta require that we again send Sen. Rebecca Millett to represent us to work hard for the best interest of our community and all of those in Maine who have been forgotten in this adversarial political climate. I know she will continue to be an effective advocate for us in Augusta.

Sen. Millett has been endorsed by the Maine Education Association, the Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Maine Association of Realtors and she's received endorsements and 100 percent ratings by the Maine League of Conservation Voters, Maine’s AFL-CIO, and the Maine People's Alliance. Please join these organizations and myself by supporting Sen. Millett for a third term in Augusta. She has earned our vote. Please don't forget to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
