Linwood H. Bailey

Linwood H. Bailey, 82 of Westbrook, passed away peacefully on Oct. 20 at the Veterans Hospice unit at Togus in Augusta.

He was born in Portland, son of Harold and Hilda (Burns) Bailey.

Lin graduated from Portland High School, class of 1952.

He proudly served in the U.S Navy from January 1953 to November 1954.

Lin retired from Portland Gas Co. after 20 years of service and was Yerxa’s service manager from 1975 to 1984.

He was a landlord with properties in Westbrook and South Portland.

Lin’s favorite activities were outdoors where he enjoyed many hours of boating and fishing at his camp at Panther

Pond.

He was a golfer, hunter, traveller, dancer, fisherman, driver of trucks and motorcycles, and doer of good deeds.

Always ready to lend a hand, he was the one to call for repairs, remodeling, wiring, plumbing, moving or erecting a backyard jungle gym.

In retirement he enjoyed

Friday breakfast meetings with friends each week and playing cribbage at the South Portland Community Center.

Lin was a devoted father, grandfather, companion and friend.

He was predeceased by his infant great-grandson Brooks K. Bailey (North Carolina).

Survivors include his four sons and their spouses: Ronald Bailey (Westbrook), Keith and Alicia Bailey (Raleigh North Carolina), Paul and Lisa Bailey (Windham), Scott and Melanie Bailey (Naples), and their mother Joyce Bailey of Portland.

He leaves grandchildren Christopher Bailey and wife Sarah (North Carolina), Trevor Jenkins, and Raushan Bailey (Windham).

He will be deeply missed by his partner of 31 years Susan White of South Portland and her family Cindy, Vinnie, Anthony and Maria Degifico.

A graveside service was held at Brooklawn Memorial Park where he was interred on Oct. 26.
