Friday, Dec. 2

Holiday Fest, 4 to 7 p.m., Mill Creek Park, South Portland. Includes horse drawn carriages, cider, hot chocolate, hot dogs, visit with Santa at city hall, carols with school choirs and tree lighting at 6 p.m.

Bean supper, 5 to 6:15 p.m., St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Black Point Road, Scarborough. Sponsored by Knights of Columbus, formerly of St. John’s in South Portland. Includes hot dogs, macaroni and cheese and American chop suey.

Saturday, Dec. 3

Mad Science, “Holiday Spectacular Science Show,” 10:30 a.m., South Portland Public Library. They will use indoor fireworks to create a festival of lights, share a top secret “special ice” shipped straight from the North Pole, and present magical non-melting snow. It may be difficult at times to determine what is science and what is magic, but a Mad Scientist will explain it all.

Jolly Snowman Christmas Fair, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Cape Elizabeth United Methodist Church, 280 Ocean House Road, Cape Elizabeth. Luncheon served 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It includes lobster rolls, hot dogs and desserts.

Pancake breakfast with Santa, 8 to 10 a.m., South Portland Community Center, 21 Nelson Road. Pre-register online with the community center at www.southportland.org or for tickets call 799-5511, ext. 7424. Proceeds benefit South Portland Police VIPS.

Winter Wonderland Christmas Fair, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Peoples United Methodist Church, 310 Broadway, South Portland. Luncheon served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: chowder, chicken salad, sandwiches, hog dogs, chili.

South Portland High School Cheerleaders annual Craft and Vendor Fair, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., South Portland High School cafeteria, 637 Highland Ave., South Portland. Includes raffles, bake sale, silent auction, crafters and artisans.

Kehilah Portland Messianic Jewish Synagogue meets, 10 a.m., Greater Portland Christian School, 1338 Broadway, South Portland. Torah study follows at 1 p.m. FMI, call 809-3104.

Eventide, 5:30 p.m., St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, Shore Road, Cape Elizabeth. A service of prayer and music in Celtic tradition.

Church service, 10 to 11 a.m. Peoples United Methodist Church, 310 Broadway, South Portland. Nursery care and Sunday school during service followed by a coffee fellowship.

Service, 10:45 a.m., Cape Elizabeth Church of the Nazarene, 499 Ocean House Road, Cape Elizabeth, 9:30 a.m. Sunday school for all ages.

The Many Moods of Christmas, a Casco Bay Wind Symphony concert, 3 p.m., McCormack Performing Arts Center, Gorham High School. The 70-member ensemble, originally from South Portland, is made up of professional and amateur musicians from all over southern Maine, and is one of the highest quality wind ensembles in New England.

The Meetinghouse Choir presents a candlelight service, featuring an Advent Litany by Maria Kane with hymns, anthems and solos both vocal and instrumental. A time of refreshment and fellowship will follow the service.
