Stair masters

South Portland firefighters joined 507 of their peers from across New England in Boston on Saturday, Feb. 4, for the annual Fight for Air Climb, one of the signature annual fundraising events of the American Lung Association. The "Race Up Boston Place" saw the crew challenge the clock as they climbed 41 stories and 82 flights of stairs while wearing full turnout gear, all to demonstrate the need for healthy airways. The team raised nearly $3,000 of the $437,989 garnered at the event. SPFD entrants, with their time and overall rank, included, from left, Tobey Farrington (16:35, 355th), Nick Whitmore (16:45, 359th), Zack Tooker (8:56, 24th), Josh Logan (11:14, 120th), Mine Norton (14:03, 257th), Steve Simonson (11:35, 146th), and Ben Guild (10:45, 89th). Also participating, but not in the picture, because he took it, was Lt. Phil Selberg (8:36, 14th).
