Letter writer’s ideas have no teeth

To the editor:

I am writing in response to a recent letter from William Duffy-Dufris in which he attacks the oil industry generally and Portland Pipe Line in particular. Mr.Duffy-Dufris spends a good part of his letter quoting the Bible and paraphrasing a theologian analyzing the quoted passage, all the while stating that he puts no faith in Scripture. So what’s the point?

After railing against Portland Pipe Line for several more paragraphs for having the temerity to stand up for what it believes to be its rights under the law, Mr. Duffy-Dufris retreats to the classic pose of the bully and the coward. He ends his letter by saying: “Why don’t we just boot them outta South Portland once and for all, and good riddance.” It’s this kind of thinking that gives liberalism a bad name.

I’m against tar sands too, but I believe in due process and the rule of law.

John Howard South Portland
