Community Shredding Day, 9 a.m. to noon, South Portland Public Library, 482 Broadway, South Portland. Provided by Trace Mobile Shredding. Free.

Earth Day citywide litter cleanup, 8:30 a.m. to noon, meet at Mill Creek Park, opposite Hannaford. Hosted by South Portland Land Trust, participants get cleanup supplies and are assigned a location. City workers will pick up trash bags. Each participant will have a chance to win a bundle of prizes. Rain date is Saturday, April 29.

Race and justice in America, 6:30 p.m., Thomas Memorial Library, Cape Elizabeth. Dr. Leroy M. Rowe will lecture. Rowe received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Missouri. Rowe’s research and teaching interests focus on the social and political experiences of African Americans during the late 19th and early 20th centuries with an emphasis on race, gender and sexuality.
