Stories are inspiring

To the editor:

It is with great pleasure that I invite the public to come to South Portland City Hall on May 3, Wednesday, at 3:15 p.m. to hear the “Sacred Stories” of asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants. These are the Advanced ESOL students at Southern Maine Community College who are doing their final project. The stories are powerful, emotional and life-changing. I ask you to come to give your support and encouragement to them as they tell some of the most powerful moments of their lives.

There is limited seating so please come early, settle in and plan on two hours; it will fly by as you listen to these courageous young men and women speak to you, in public, in a language that is not native to them – English.

This event is for people age 15 and older. It is free. Hope to see you there.

Rosemarie De Angelis SMCC Professor
