Learn about bees and landscaping

Eric Venturini, an assistant research scientist at the University of Maine’s School of Biology and Ecology and owner of Grow Wild Bees Consulting, will provide practical tips on how to plan a garden and maintain a yard in such a way as to help wild bees to survive and thrive.

The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15 at Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth.

The talk will start by introducing some of the 276-plus species of native bees that live in Maine. Participants will discuss the role of these pollinators in state agriculture and the garden. Venturini will describe results of a recent study on the health of bumble bees in Maine, and go over what can be done to help support native pollinators for improved pollination on a farm or in a garden.
