Politicians should get behind ranked choice voting

To the editor:

In a time when confidence in our representatives is at an all-time low and partisanship is widespread, Maine legislators have come together in a push to deny the 388,000 votes for ranked choice voting in direct opposition to the will of the people of Maine.

Ranked choice voting would encourage our legislators to redefine how they campaign and to reach a broader base of constituents to get that second or third vote. Our representatives want to keep the same voting system in place so they don’t have to compromise and can hold up in their districts. Now more than ever we need to get involved and make sure they understand that they serve the people not the other way around
