South Portland Land Trust to hold Trail Care Day on July 16

The South Portland Land Trust will hold Trail Care Day at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 16. The trusts Trails and Land Committee are organizing the event, and land trust members and the community are invited to take part in this volunteer initiative.

Volunteers should meet at the South Portland Land Trust office in Mill Creek Park, 473 Broadway (small brick building across from the library). Trails Care Day is being held to complete the maintenance projects identified in a recent survey of the land trust’s trails by board members.

Participants will be assigned work tasks and given tools before dispersing to trails that need work. Participants should RSVP to sopolandtrust@gmail.com if they have a particular set of skills they think will be relevant to the work needed: bog bridge building, cutting back vegetation, replacing wooden steps and moving a foot bridge into place. The trails involved are: the Long Creek Trail, Clarks Pond Trail, South Branch Trail and Mt. Vernon Street Trail.
